The PLN-EQR is a double planisphere, with a star chart for 10[degrees] N and one for 10[degrees] S. The direction in which is looked determines which of both star charts is best suited. The PLN-EQR is 25 X 25 cm with four pages, two of which are used for both star charts. Another page shows the instructions and the fourth a concise introduction to astronomy. Besides some 700 stars in all 88 constellations, the two 'mother' designs (one for the northern and one for the southern sky) from which all planispheres were derived, show some 300 'binocular objects': galaxies, double stars, variable stars, nebulae etc. Apart from these objects a number of special 'points' is included, like the centre of our Milky Way galaxy, the galactic and ecliptic poles, the apex (the point towards which the Sun is moving) and the stars Proxima Centauri (the nearest next star!) Barnard's star. The ecliptic is shown very accurately, including the dates of the Sun's positions, allowing you to rather exactly determine the times of Sunrise and Sunset (the 'Tips' tell you more about this). The planisphere also shows the celestial coordinates (right ascension and declination). Every planisphere shows the area for which they are perfect, from 5[degrees] to -5[degrees] of the design latitude. This is a 10[degrees] wide band across the entire globe! For example: the PLN-30 is perfect between 25[degrees] and 35[degrees] N. This does not mean that it is entirely useless at 37[degrees]! But the PLN-40 would be better there. Please consult an atlas to determine which planisphere(s) you need. The time on the planispheres is the normal time for the centre of your time zone, as well as the daylight saving time (smaller). You can easily adjust the planispheres to your exact location (the other 'Tip'). Other highly instructive astronomy products The first three of a series of cardboard 'Build-It-Yourself' products are ready now: a star wheel, a sundial and a Solar System model. They are particularly useful for children and as teaching materials. Other products will follow. The BIY star wheels and sundials are both easy to make and understand. They are printed in black and blue and of size 30 X 42 cm. The star wheel (for 40[degrees] and 50[degrees] N) is a simplified version of the planisphere. The sundial is of a very simple, so instructive design. Its purpose to have children better understand the time we all use. Solar System Model The third model is a model of the Solar System, to scale 1:100 billion! It consists of 16 cards: for the Sun, the planets, the Moon, asteroids, comets, the Voyagers and the ice dwarf ('Kuiper Belt Object') Quaoar, the largest members of our Solar System discovered (in 2002) since the discovery of Pluto! They contain so much information that they are in fact a concise encyclopedia of th Solar System! The most important purpose is that, when completely placed, it provides the best possible representation of the distances within our own Solar System and the emptiness of space. The sizes to scale are also given as well as '100 times enlarged (scale 1:1 billion), to allow better comparison of the sizes. An extra card, named 'Further away...', provides information on the nearest next star, Proxima Centauri, and several other interesting objects. The front sheet contains more general information about the Solar System and an explanation of some information shown on the cards (like 'mass'). The complete model when placed up to Pluto at its present distance is 47 m long. The average distance for Pluto is at 59 m and it can be as far away as 75 m! We recommend the place Quaoar as well, demanding 64 m of length. This model is not only well suited for kids themselves or the complete family, but also perfect as teaching tool!
