About Piet Goussard

Prof PG Goussard's love of the grapevine dates back to the town of his birth, Prieska, South Africa. Here, the home's trellis produced an abundance of grapes every year, instilling a deep appreciation for the diverse possibilities of this fruit. This was followed by regular vacation work in the sprawling wine and table grape vineyards - a deciding factor in his choice to enter the field of Viticulture and Oenology. The passion for the different types of grapes and how to distinguish them from each other he ascribes to Prof. Chris Orffer, former teacher and colleague of Goussard, who had an incredible ability to convey the details of grape cultivars to students and producers in a masterful manner, and with the greatest dedication. Following the completion of his studies at the esteem Stellenbosch University, Prof Goussard went on to lecture at the university and, alongside his research work, established himself as an industry expert in the South African wine industry. A keen photographer, he not only produced all photographic material for his own book, but continues to catalogue grape varieties and the vine's life cycle in all its complex diversity.
