Gender Equality and the Media PDF ePub eBook

Books Info:

Gender Equality and the Media free pdf This book presents the first sustained effort to explore the relationship between women and media in a European context, looking at both production (employment) and representation (content) and theorising the relationship between the two. Each chapter draws on a major European-wide research project and contextualises the empirical findings within a much wider and broader national context that considers issues such as national legislation, media unions, the media mix in terms of public and private sector organisations, and the experiences of women media professionals themselves. The empirical chapters are positioned within an over-arching framework that explores the historical dimension of global recommendations and European policy-making in relation to the gender/media nexus, theorising the impact of indicators for gender equality. It also considers the extent to which media organisations have gender equality mechanisms in place and discusses a variety of best practice examples.
