Ispeek: Visual Communication Supports PDF ePub eBook

Books Info:

Ispeek: Visual Communication Supports free pdf The files are full of the symbols we would use each day- the most obvious needs. I did not include animals because I think pictures of animals are very easy to obtain and I personally felt it used up vital communication space. The same applied to a few categories, because I had to prioritise the files. The focus was on including words and phrases you cannot normally obtain a picture of. An example of this is, you can get a picture of a dog, but not a picture of "I have a headache." The files come in two formats, metafiles

About Janet Dixon

Janet Dixon I have six years experience of working in a school specialising in Autistic Spectrum Disorders. I first worked as a Teaching Support Assistant, and then as a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant. I also attended a Post experience eighteen month course at Birmingham university, which covered all aspects of the Autistic spectrum. Previous to this I had worked as Nursery Nurse in a mainstream nursery class where I experienced a variety of special educational needs. During my time at the school I worked closely with individuals whose ages ranged from four to nineteen years. The pupils were very individual and had very different needs. I learned so much from them all, and grew to have tremendous respect for each and everyone of them. The work was sometimes very challenging but totally rewarding and a great leveller. We used communication visuals throughout the school in schedules, personal communication books, worksheets and in the different approaches to Autism. I have always found drawing comes easily to me and I have a penchant for art so at times when we could not locate a particular picture to suit an individual, I would draw one. This led to me accumulating quite a collection and I was becoming well practised in portraying a word or phrase in a drawing. To enable me to get the picture functional I would communicate without speech to my family making me draw on gesture, facial expression, body language and posture. A colleague suggested publishing the pictures so I collated them onto a CD And that is how it began. From there this second CD was also made.
