Books Info:

Hanging Angels free pdf Hanging Angels is a civil rights - courtroom - magical realism - whodunit - Southern Gothic novel. The story mixes To Kill A Mockingbird, Ben-Hur, The Verdict, and Ghost. ----------- Like To Kill A Mockingbird, a 1930's strange child engages the father about the differences within the races. Living in a small Alabama town, this white father [our protagonist] as a lawyer, defends an African-American without empathy from the white community. Like Ben-Hur, the spirit of our protagonist is radically changed when meeting a type of "sacrificial lamb" for the cause. In this small town, it is taken over by a group who are willing to "cleanse" the area of any race that doesn't follow their law. Our Protagonist receives animosity from the people now in charge, whom he grew up with. But after leaving town and returning, he takes on his adversaries. Like the Verdict, an attorney [our protagonist] is out of his element, as his past is haunting him. In addition, as his case is crumbling, even the judge doesn't want him to succeed. His only ally is a woman who knows more than she is willing to offer. But once it comes out, the damage is already done. Like Ghost, the supernatural is involved in life, being done so, in a way most people aren't aware of. One person caught between life and death has a story to tell, another person beyond the grave helps a man [our protagonist] as he tries to save one life ... and solve a mystery ... before murder takes place. ----------- Put that all together and you have Hanging Angels: As a parent, Jefferson Pine doesn't think it unordinary that his kid talks to God. But shadowing Jefferson for decades is what Garrett Pine believes God said back. Instead of dealing with his son, Jefferson has his own dad to worry about as they struggle in The Great Depression fixing these new fangled automobiles. But with wanderlust beckoning him to go to law school, Jefferson finally creates a gossip sensation by chasing after his dream and becoming an attorney. But not facing his demons comes back to haunt Jefferson, in 1961, when having to face his angels. He takes on the case of James Barton, an African- American who survives a lynching but is forced to remain hanging in the noose by redneck law. As the town gives Jefferson their own version of payback, his only ally is James' cousin. But Wanda Barton knows the weakness of Jefferson and sees it preventing justice. His problem is not the cemetery caretaker claiming James Barton was attacked by a headless white woman. Nor is it pounding headaches from a childhood accident giving him visions beyond this world. But all is lost if Jefferson just can't tell the difference between black and white. [courtroom 1st isbn ]
