About Philip Hoy

Anthony Hecht was born in New York City in 1923, and studied at Bard College, before going into the army and serving in Europe during WWII. After the war he went to Kenyon College, where he studied under John Crowe Ransom, and first began to publish his poetry. In the half-century since his days at Kenyon, Hecht has published seventeen books of poetry, three of criticism, and a large number of essays, reviews, introductions, etc. He has also done acclaimed work as a translator and editor. He lives in Washington DC.
