Graphene Devices and Applications free pdf Graphene research is at a turning point: Many fundamental aspects regarding the physics of the material have been discovered, investigated and described. This has led to widespread speculations of potential applications, including serious interest from industry. This book summarizes the most promising potential applications at a time where graphene research transitions from basic science to engineering.

The first part of the book gives an outline of fundamental aspects, materials growth and materials properties such as graphene?s exceptional electrical conductivity, broadband optoelectronic conversion and mechanical stability. These properties may lead to electronic devices with superior properties compared to existing technologies. The main part of the book therefore selects the most promising electronic and optoelectronic devices as there are Field Effect and Tunnel transistors, photodetectors for a wide range of spectral areas, and modulators. The discussion includes an explanation of the operating device principle and how graphene could make a difference in their performance metrics.
Graphene is also a promising material for transparent conductors needed for displays or solar cells, and a prime candidate in printable electronics. The last two chapters present the state of the art and discuss how far from competitive realizations the current implementations are.

The book is intended for graduate students in nanoelectronics/nanotechnology courses in engineering and physics, and for both academic and industrial researchers in a wide range of applied science fields. These include electronic device engineers working in the semiconductor industry, the solar industry and the flat panel industry.

About Max Christian Lemme

Max C. Lemme is Professor for Graphene-based Nanotechnology at the University of Siegen in Germany. He received his Dr.-Ing. degree in Electrical Engineering from RWTH Aachen University in 2003. He was with nanotechnology start-up AMO GmbH, Aachen, Germany, before he joined Harvard University in Cambridge, USA, in 2008. In 2008 he has been appointed Guest-Professor at KTH, Sweden, where he is leading the graphene research within the School of ICT. He received the young researchers' award "NanoFutur" in Germany, a Humboldt Fellowship, an ERC Consolidator Grant and a Heisenberg-Professorship from the German Research Foundation. Besides graphene devices and technology, his research interests include non-conventional nano-CMOS device and novel high-k materials for gate stacks.
