About Aidan Rodley

Aidan Rodley is an award-winning racing journalist and broadcaster, with more than 20 years of writing experience behind him. A former representative rugby player, Aidan took his first reporting job with the Ashburton Guardian, covering racing there before heading north to work for the Taranaki Daily News. During his time abroad, Aidan worked for the Scottish New Agency in Edinburgh, then returned to New Zealand as Wellington bureau chief at the Sunday News before taking up a role as a television presenter for racing broadcaster Trackside in 2002. An opportunity to become racing editor for the Waikato Times was too good to pass up and Aidan remained in that job until 2014. Now a freelance racing journalist based at Te Kowhai, Aidan works for the New Zealand Racing Desk, manages three jockeys and remains a presenter for Trackside, notably as a form expert on northern premier days and as panellist on Saturday morning preview show The First Call. He has hosted Trackside's breeding show Born To Run and is a contributor to current breeding show Kiwi Bred. Aidan has been involved in most facets of racing, including as a breeder and owner. In 2014, along with Karyn Fenton-Ellis, Aidan hosted the annual New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing Awards and he has been the MC for several awards evenings of branches of the New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders' Association. Brought up in the central Taranaki town of Stratford, Aidan is married to Amanda and together they have three children - Samantha, Hamish and Noah. Where Champions Are Born is Aidan's first foray into authorship.
