Books Info:

Cancer Poetry free pdf This study is the first to provide a sustained analysis of the theme of cancer in contemporary poetry. Through themed chapters, Cancer Poetry offers close readings of works by major award-winning poets, including Paul Muldoon, Jo Shapcott and Christopher Reid. The book examines the variety of cancer elegies and cancer survival poems that have been written, illustrating how poets attempt to give order to the disease through different representational strategies. In writing about a number of different cancers, poets from around the world analyse the politicization of illness, the ethics of cancer discourse, and poetry's personal and social effects, whether in alleviating grief or raising awareness about cancer prevention and care. In this way, these poets test the ability of the poetic imagination to provide redress for this most devastating disease.
