About Judi Achjadi

Judi Achjadi, a Canadian, came to Indonesia in 1958, the wife of an Indonesian diplomat, became an Indonesian citizen soon afterwards, and has spent the rest of her personal life studying traditional Indonesian dress, of which traditional textiles are an essential component. Judi says she came in at a good time, when usage of Western dress was increasing exponentially but there were still elderly experts wanting to pass on their knowledge, so that it would not be lost. Judi has written a number of articles and books, including "The Glory of Batik: The Danar Hadi Collection, Exquisite Indonesia: The Finest Crafts of the Archipelago, " and "Batik Spirit of Indonesia."
