Entrenched free pdf The Dane Rufus Lieder fancies himself an artist and a free spirit, but when he moves to South-Eastern Europe he is confronted with his own extreme stiltedness. His cultural fetters become painfully obvious against the background of the life unfolding around him, and he resolves to assimilate as much of the local culture as he can. Returning to Denmark after three years, he seems to have acquired a new pair of eyes- what he sees is no longer a worldly paradise but a surreal structure where automatons in human form relate to each other only through pre-determined paradigms. Rufus perceives the beating hearts, but an invisible force is constraining them within a metal cage, and he sets out to find the souce of the malaise. Meanwhile, the head of Anticonsensus, a mysterious foreign enterprise, arrives in Copenhagen with a diabolical agenda and immediately starts ripping the fabric of Danish society apart, while an association of expatriates establish the much-needed Help a Dane Day.

About Robin Wildt Hansen

Robin Wildt Hansen is half English and half Danish. He believes that "we each have our path- if we encounter a mountain on it, we can try to walk around it, but it will always be there until we climb it." The last mountain Robin encountered was Danish culture. His international upbringing kept him from realising how Danish he actually was until he found himself in a country with a vastly different culture. Seeing his behaviour highlighted against that of the natives of that country, his deeply seated inhibitions and - at that point - even misanthropy became extremely vivid to him. He worked to assimilate the benefits of the other culture, but this only increased the culture shock he subsequently experienced when he returned to Denmark. In fact it was so strong that he had no choice but to climb the mountain, write the book. His main purpose became to identify how modern Danish culture and society sickens the soul, as he now saw examples of all around him. He felt he had been given superpowers: as a Dane he saw Danish culture from within- now he could see it from the outside as well. This inspired him to seek the points of view of foreigners living in Denmark. As he assembled the pieces that this feedback gave him, a mosaic started to form that explained the origin of the isolation, loneliness and mediocrity that he and his numerous expat friends in Denmark experienced. This full picture and analysis also served to explain the reasons for all the little things that foreigners notice and wonder about in Danish behaviour and most Danes still think constitute the benchmark of normality. Born in Copenhagen, Robin is a multi-talented and visionary author who praises diversity in society and originality in personal life.
