Central Tuscany free pdf "Where do you find some of the best hill towns in Tuscany? The Valdichiana." Where do you want to go on your next visit to Tuscany? What do you want to see and do? My bet is that you want to see some of the other hill towns at a slower pace and learn more about the culture, food, people, and events, in other words, you want to learn to "live" in Tuscany. This volume of the "Inside Tuscany: A Second Time Around Series" helps you answer those questions by taking you to eight of the most beautiful small hill towns in central Tuscany in the region of the Valdichiana. Here I help you . . . . . . . set up a base up in the hill town of Arezzo, neither too big nor too small with excellent restaurants and a wealth of museums and churches, . . . visit Civitella in Valdichiana and learn of its tragic history during a World War II massacre, . . . shop at the daily market in bustling Monte San Savino and visit the unique museum in a fortress tower, . . . walk through quiet and small Castiglion Fiorentino and find its small but fascinating Etruscan and Diocesan museums, . . . meander through small Foiano della Chiana and discover its hidden art treasures, . . . explore the small, well-preserved medieval town of Lucignano with its intact walls, . . . spend a day at two at the best museums in Cortona, then sit in the Piazza Repubblica and watch people go by, . . . study Etruscan artifacts at the superb Etruscan museum in Chiusi and then go underground to visit the old Roman tunnels and cistern. "Information You'll Find in the Text: " cook with authentic recipes from my Italian cousins, learn about the culture from stories about traveling in Tuscany, find a place to stay with information on an agriturismo, a hotel, and a B

About Scott Tiezzi Grabinger

"Who am I? What is my experience?" My family and I have been traveling around Italy since 1992 learning the towns, sites, foods, language, and culture. I have a wealth of cousins in Foiano della Chiana in Tuscany (my maternal grandparents emigrated to the US at the turn of the 20th century) They give me a unique perspective that only a family can provides showing me sites and restaurants that other writers miss, taking me to festivals of food "(sagre)" and celebrations, and teaching me how to "act Italian" -- well, they try. "Where did the idea for my books come from?" In 2008, after retiring form the University of Colorado Denver, and asked myself, "What do I know and love?" The answer was writing and traveling in Tuscany, so I decided to begin a series of guidebooks starting with my beloved Arezzo. "What makes my books different?" I realized that no one needs another guide about the major sites of Tuscany, so my focus is on the lesser known gems -- places missed by a first time visitor and that a repeat visitor wants to see -- sites that other guidebooks cover in 30 words or less. We want to understand better the art and culture of Tuscany. I also began to add "extras" to the books: background, history, recipes from my Italian family, and stories about the culture and people. "Trying to teach an old dog new tricks." To communicate with the family I had to learn Italian, only a few spoke any English, and that was limited. After 20 years of off-and-on studying I get by pretty well. I spend at least two weeks of every trip studying in an intensive Italian language school, which is great fun and exercise for an old mind. My favorite school is in Arezzo: "La Cultura Italiana Arezzo." "Walking the Aqueduct." In 2013 I took a different tack that I found exciting, I added a book on my adventures, misadventures, and insights about the culture of Tuscany in the well-received "Walking the Aqueduct: Tuscan Adventures and Culture." Available both in paperback and in Kindle format.
