About Aiwen Lei

Aiwen Lei is professor of organic chemistry at the College of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences and the executive director of the Institute of Green Catalysis at Wuhan University, China. He graduated from Huaibei Normal University in 1995. He then moved to the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, China, for doctoral studies under the supervision of Prof. Xiyan Lu. After having obtained his PhD in 2000, he went to Pennsylvania State University (group of X. Zhang) and then to Stanford University (group of J.P. Collman) for post-doctoral research. In 2005 he was appointed professor at Wuhan University. Aiwen Lei has received the Chinese Chemistry Society - John Wiley Young Chemist Award (2008), the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in China (2010) and the Eli Lilly Scientific Excellence Award in Chemistry in 2011. His research interests include small molecule activation with an emphasis on applying such molecules in efficient synthetic methods, developing highly selective and efficient transition-metal-catalyzed C-C and C-heteroatom bond formation in syntheses, and mechanistic studies including kinetic and active intermediate studies. Wei Shi is an associate professor at Huazhong Agricultural University (Wuhan, China) since 2011. He studied chemistry at Wuhan University and obtained his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Aiwen Lei in 2011. His research interest is focused on the chemistry of alkynes, diynes, and their derivatives. Chao Liu is a postdoctoral fellow in the group of Prof. Aiwen Lei at Wuhan University, China. He received his Bachelor's degree from Wuhan University in 2007 and his PhD in 2012. From October 2008 to October 2009 he was an exchange PhD student at Durham University, UK, under the supervision of Prof. Todd B. Marder. His research is focused on palladium-catalyzed coupling reactions. Wei Liu is a lecturer at the College of Food Science and Technology, Henan University of Technology, China. He studied chemistry at the College of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences, Wuhan University, China, and obtained his PhD in the group of Prof. Aiwen Lei in 2010. Hua Zhang joined Aiwen Lei's group at Wuhan University, China, in 2004. He received his bachelor's degree in 2008 and is currently working for his PhD by investigating transition metal-catalyzed oxidative coupling reactions. Chuan He is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Cambridge, UK, in the group of Prof. M. Gaunt. He studied chemistry at Wuhan University, China, and obtained his PhD in the group of Prof. Aiwen Lei in 2013.
