Books Info:

National Institutes of Health Research Grants free pdf Excerpt from National Institutes of Health Research Grants: Fiscal Year 1968 Funds In the fiscal year 1968, several events changed the status, organization, and functions of the National Institutes of Health. It is now a constituent administration under the Assistant Secretary for Health and Scientific Affairs, Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. The Nih now includes a broad educational function (the Bureau of Health Manpower) as well as the National Library of Medicine - both of whose research grant programs are reflected in this listing. The principal characteristic of this volume is the relatively short time-interval required to produce the publication. A similar book on training will be issued shortly. Perhaps next year it will be feasible to reduce even further the number of weeks required to issue the listing. Table 2 of this volume was prepared at the Government Printing Office directly from a magnetic tape supplied by Impac, the computer-based data system maintained by the Statistics and Analysis Branch, Division of Research Grants, through the Gpo's Linotron System. This is a cathode-ray-tube phototypesetting system operating at computer speed but producing typography of traditional graphic arts quality. Like all such initial endeavors, the attempt leaves one somewhat apprehensive over the possibility of error. But so much time can be saved by utilizing the latest computer and phototypesetting technology, that the staff of the Division of Research Grants has tried a new approach. In previous years, the Drg staff has prepared a 5 - volume listing of all Public Health Service grants and awards. Because of delays in compiling the data and the laborious task of copy preparation, letterpress typesetting, and proofing, publication has been delayed for several months. The Fy 1968 "Blue Book" series for the Public Health Service will also be published this year. Thus, this volume of Nih research grants is complementary to the Phs series.
