List of Contributors Dr. Stephen Bakare Adewale is an economist at the Department of Economics, Adekunle Ajasin University, in Ondo Province, Nigeria, specialising in labour economics and the economics of oil. He has published in the Business and Management Review on local content in industry for capacity utilisation and on Research Methodology for Economics and Behavioural Science. He is a regular contributor to the Green Economics Institute's conferences and books and is currently editing a book: The Greening of Nigeria. Ben Armstrong-Haworth is researching at Cass Business School, City University London where his is looking at how technology developers in the fuel cell industry use partnerships to commercialise their technology. Ben's research has generally focussed on the development and application of low carbon energy technologies to transport. He is also interested in energy policy and market support mechanisms, and environmental business management. Professor Dzintra Atstaja is an associate professor at the BA School of Business and Finance, Latvia, and a scientific expert of the Latvian Council of Science. She specializes in the economics and sustainability of transport policy, business control systems and management, environmental management, civil defence, and work safety. She has created more than 80 publications, which have been included in EBSCO, Scopus, ISI Web of Knowledge, AGRIS, The Library of Congress, and more. Natalie Bennett replaced Caroline Lucas as leader of the Green Party of England and Wales in September 2012. Before her current role in politics, she edited the Guardian Weekly. She continues her writing as a regular blogger, and she has her own blog: Philobiblon. Rose Bridger has written about aviation for several years for a range of publishers, and her first book about aviation, 'Plane Truth', was published in October 2013. She recently spoke at a conference at the House of Commons about aviation before the chair of the Transport Select Committee. Rose also has vast experience in food and the environment, on which she has produced a large volume of writing, and she has worked on the Local Agenda 21 and environmental policy in London and Kirklees. 10 The Greening of Transport Policy Andrew Davis is a councillor for Weybridge North, Elmbridge Borough Council. He set up Environmental Transport Association 20 years ago, a business that provides breakdown and travel services with a low environmental impact for 50,000 customers in the UK. He is a proponent of 20mph zones in residential areas. Louise Ellman MP is a Member of Parliament for Liverpool Riverside, a Labour Cooperative Politician, and is currently Chair of the Commons Transport Select Committee. She has studied at the Universities of Hull and York, and lectured for several years for the Open University. Before her role in Parliamnet, she was a councillor at Lancashire Council. Salman Farisi has worked in the laboratory of transport at the University of Indonesia, researching extensively in transport and road systems. Alan Francis is a transport consultant and is the chair of New Bradwell Parish Council. He has worked alongside a variety of transport campaign groups including Rail Future, Road Traffic Reduction Troika, and Campaign for Better Transport. Additionally, Alan has been a member of several local consultative committees, such as the Milton Keynes Transport Partnership and the Wolverton Rail Users Group, which he chaired. David Flint is a Senior Visiting Fellow at the Cass Business School, London. He has spent thirty years studying Information Technology and its application and interpreting his findings for senior managers in business and public service. He has written two books and a great many reports, advised hundreds of organisations and lectured on four continents. He has served as a trustee of the British Pregnancy Advisory Service, the UK's leading abortion provider, and was founding chairman of Education For Choice, originally a charity providing educational resources relating to abortion and birth control and now part of Brook. Dr Nane Grimot is a researcher at London South Bank University, for department of Development Studies. A specialist in Nigeria, Dr Grimot's research interests lie in the economics of governance and the corruption history of economics. He specialises in the Political Economy of Development, Energy Management and Business Development of SMEs. Richard Hebditch is campaigns director at the Campaign for Better Transport. He also has experience with the campaign group Living Streets, which aims to improve pedestrian facilities. Besides campaigning, Richard Hebditch has worked for local and 11 The Greening of Transport Policy central government and with voluntary organisations. Volker Heinemann, co-founder and CEO of the Green Economics Institute, is an economist who studied at the Universities of Goettingen, Kiel and Nottingham, and a specialist in international and developing economics, monetary economics and macroeconomic theory and policy. He is author of the book "Die Oekonomie der Zukunft," "The Economy of the Future," a book outlining a green structure for a contemporary economy that accepts the pressing changes that are needed to outdated current economic thinking. He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, trained at PWC and other major Institutions and is a Deputy Editor of the International Journal of Green Economics. In Europe, Volker is a popular radio and TV speaker, and a former Die Gruenen Councillor. Richard Holcroft is an economist and mathematician at the University of Durham researching in aspects of transport and its environmental and socio-economic impacts. He recently ran a conference at the House of Commons on transport and climate change, chaired by Louise Ellman MP, chair of the Commons Transport Select Committee. He also recently compiled a report on transport policy for the Select Committee, and he has delivered this research at the Oxford Union. Richard is a delegate of the Kyoto Protocol, attending COP 19 in Warsaw, November 2013. Additionally, he has experience in freight management at SMC Industrial, an international engineering company in the Netherlands. Fandhy Imansyah has worked in the laboratory of transport at the University of Indonesia, researching extensively in transport and road systems. Miriam Kennet is Co-Founder and CEO of the Green Economics Institute. She is credited with creating the academic discipline of Green Economics, and founded the first Green Economics academic journal in the world: the International Journal of Green Economics. She runs regular conferences at Oxford University about Green Economics and this year has run 8 events. Her organisation has its own printing house, which has produced over 100 articles, papers and books. She is a graduate of the University of Oxford, where she studied at the Institute of Transport Studies, and where she is a member of the Environmental Change Institute and Mansfield College. She has also researched at Oxford Brookes University and South Bank University. Miriam has taught, lectured and spoken at Universities and events across Europe. 12 The Greening of Transport Policy She has spoken to government officials from Montenegro and Kosovo to The UK Cabinet Office, Transport Department, and Treasury, and has appeared before Parliaments from Scotland to Austria and The French Senat and Estonia. She has recently spoken at the UK Parliament, the Bank of England and Brussels on the Eurozone crisis and on high-speed rail. She has a delegation to the UNFCC COP Kyoto Climate Change Conferences and headed up a delegation to RIO 20 Earth Summit: Greening the Economy in RIO Brazil. She is also on the Assembly of the Green European Foundation and the steering group of the European Network of Political Foundations. Additionally, Miriam is a regular speaker at public events of all kinds, and an afterdinner speaker. She regularly appears on TV around Europe, most recently in Belgium and Estonia, and this year the BBC has made a special programme about her life and work. She has been named as one of 100 most powerful unseen global women by the charity One World Action. She has been featured in the Harvard Economics Review and Wall Street Journal as a leader. Her work is very practical and, before creating The Institute, Miriam worked in factories, engineering and project management for many years. Andyka Kusuma has worked in the laboratory of transport at the University of Indonesia, researching extensively in transport and road systems. Adrian Lawson is the chair of the Reading Cycle Campaign, the fourth-largest cycling campaign group in the UK. He is also a writer for Get Reading, a news publication in Reading. Junqi Li is an economist at the University of Durham. He has a research interest in the development of China, and he has researched the effects of development on the environment. Recently, he has focused on the role of transport in China's development. Richard Mallender is a member of Rushcliffe Borough Council and has served as a member of Brighton City Council. He is the vice-chair of the West Bridgford Local Area Forum, through which he promotes 20mph zones in residential areas. Additionally, he is the treasurer of the Lady Bay Community Association, campaigning to re-open public footpaths. Ryte Maumeviciute is a green economist from Vilnius University in Lithuania, who has worked in China on issues of transport. 13 The Greening of Transport Policy Peter McManners has been a member of the Institute of Green Economic since 2004 and has written extensively on sustainability including the books Adapt and Thrive: the Sustainable Revolution, Victim of Success: Civilization at Risk and Green Outcomes in the Real World. He is a doctoral researcher in economic geography and Visiting Fellow of Henley Business School, Reading University. Michelle S. Gale de Oliveira is a director of the Green Economics Institute, UK, where she is deputy editor of the International Journal of Green Economics, the first Green Economics academic journal in the world. She is a member of the Law School of the University of London School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), holding an MA in Human Rights Law with a focus on Islamic Law, Peace-Building, and Developing Countries. She is founder of the Gender Progress Consortium. Her writing has been featured in Europe's World, one of the foremost European policy magazines. She lectures and speaks on Human Rights, Environmental and Social Justice, Gender Equity, International Development and Green Economics internationally. Recently, she ran a conference on women's unequal pay and poverty in Reading, UK, and lectured at the Oxford University Club on the human rights of land reform. She is a regular speaker at international conferences and has appeared in the media in Africa, Europe, and Latin America. In 2010/2011, she was a delegate to the UNFCCC's COP15/16 in Copenhagen and Cancun, and in 2012 led a delegation to RIO 20, where she ran three side events on Green Economics. Stephen Plowden has worked as a consultant on transport for clients ranging from the World Bank and national governments to local environmental groups. He is the author of many books and reports on the theme that much the same reforms are required both to make transport more efficient for users and to reduce its environmental impact. His most recent study, with Simon Lister, Cars Fit for Their Purpose, was published by Local Transport Today in 2009. Lizzie Reather is the chair of the Leeds Cycling Campaign, a group that aims to improve cycling facilities in Leeds. Lizzie recently spoke on BBC news about the government's strategy for improving the cycling infrastructure in cities in the UK. Carlos Restituyo is currently researching at Richmond, the American International University in London. Due to his background living in Santo Domingo, he is familiar with the ailments of developing nations, and he has produced research on developmental economics and the role that transport plays- some of this research is found in this book. His other academic interests include economics, philosophy and the environment. Carlos is also a member of the Green Economics Institute, and co-edited 14 The Greening of Transport Policy The Greening of Latin America, which was published by The Institute in September 2013. Jonathan Ross-Tatam is a historian at the University of Edinburgh. He is a regular blogger on contemporary economics and politics and has taken a lead role in policy commissions on 'The Future of Britain's Railways' and the 'Care Crisis'. He is also a Comment Editor for 'The Edinburgh Student'. Silvanus Nohan Rudrokasworo has worked in the laboratory of transport at the University of Indonesia, researching extensively in transport and road systems. Lawrence Sappor is a health worker from Ghana. Hugo Spowers, an Oxford University trained engineer and entrepreneur, has a passion for zero-emissions vehicles. As an entrepreneur, he founded and ran a business over 15 years, designing and building racing cars and restoring historic racing cars. He left motorsport due to environmental concerns and went on to obtain an MBA from Cranfield University, where he conducted a feasibility study into bringing hydrogen fuel cell cars to market. This led him to found Riversimple, bring together the consortium behind LIFECar and then pursue the local vehicle as a path to commercialisation. John Stewart was named by the Independent on Sunday as the UK's 'most effective environmentalist' in 2008. He has worked in the transport field for 30 years, campaigning at a local, national and international level, and he makes regular appearances in the media. He is the lead campaigner of Stop Heathrow Airport Expansion and chair of HACAN Clear Skies. In that capacity, he was a central figure in the coalition which defeated plans for a third runway at Heathrow Airport. He also chairs Airport Watch, the network of community and environmental organisations opposed to the aggressive expansion of aviation, and he is President of UECNA, the European body which represents airport campaign groups in Europe . Since its inception in 2000 he has chaired UK Noise Association. He was prominent in the campaigns against road building in the 1980s and 1990s, cofounding and chairing ALARM, the national network of 250 community groups which helped destroy GBP23 billion national roads programmes. He is a past chair of Campaign for Better Transport and RoadPeace, the body which campaigns on behalf of road traffic victims. For nearly a decade he was a Board Member of Transport for All, the body campaigning for fully accessible transport. 15 The Greening of Transport Policy He is the author of a number of publications including Why Noise Matters, published by Earthscan in 2011, and Victory Against All the Odds, the seminal account of how the Heathrow third runway campaign was won. Lucy Taylor is Campaigns Executive at Environmental Transport Association, a business that provides breakdown and travel services with a low environmental impact for 50,000 customers in the UK. She also has experience in production and research at the BBC Dr Enrico Tezza is a senior training specialist and has a background in social research and evaluation studies. After a career in the Italian Ministry of Labour and local public institutions, he joined the International Labour Organisation in Turin in 1992. He is labour market advisor for the Green Economics Institute. Subjects covered vary from training policy to employment and active labour market measures. His current focus interest is on social dialogue for green jobs. His main publication was Evaluating Social Programmes: the relevance of relationships, and his latest publications include Dialogue for Responsible Restructuring and Green Labour Market for Transitions. Jigme Tashi Tsering is currently working as a Senior Analyst in the Department of Investment, Druk Holding and Investment, the commercial arm of the Royal Government of Bhutan. Jigme has a Bachelors in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (ITT), Delhi, and a Masters in Environmental Engineering from the University of Melbourne. He has over eleven years of working experience and has worked in various capacities in Government, including as an engineer, technical auditor, and environmentalist. Andris Valdemars is manager of a transport fleet renewal department, Latvenergo AS. He has 21 years' experience in the automotive sector. At present, he works as head of a transport fleet replacement unit. During his professional career he has worked as head of a car repair service, as a manager of automotive electronic parts warehouse, as a technical director, and as head of a finance department in the automotive field.
