About Jharna Pathak

John R Wood is Professor Emeritus at the Department of Political Science, University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada. He began his academic career in 1969 with an appointment to the Department of Political Science, UBC, where over the next 36 years he primarily taught Comparative Politics, South Asian Government and Politics and Non-Western Politics. His research interests include Indian politics, focused on centre-state relations, state politics, party politics, the reservation issue, and, latterly, the politics of inter-state river water disputes and water management. He has been studying the disputes over the construction of the Narmada dams since 1989. Professor Wood served as the founding Director of the Centre for India and South Asia Research in the Institute of Asian Research, UBC, from 1990 to 1996, and is actively involved in research on India through the centre after retirement. He has also been involved with the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI), which promotes academic exchange and research collaboration between Canada and India. He served as Resident Director/Vice-president at SICI's India office (New Delhi) during 1973-75, 1989-90 and 2004-2006. He was also President of SICI during 1994-1996.
