To Fly a Blenheim free pdf Restoring a Bristol Blenheim - not once but twice For many years the Bristol Blenheim, one of the most versatile and innovative aircraft of WWII, was virtually forgotten and extinct. What few examples remained were either on museum static display, or decaying hulks abandoned to the elements. That is until Graham Warner, former RAF pilot and ex-racing driver, decided that a Blenheim should be restored not just to museum standard, but to fly. With this in mind, Warner assembled a dedicated team of aircraft specialists who laboured for 12 years to transform a derelict wartime hulk into a beautiful flying aircraft. The culmination of their efforts came in 1987, when a Bristol Blenheim once again took to the skies. And yet, within a few weeks the dream was shattered, when the Blenheim crashed and was destroyed. Despite this disaster, and with an exceptional degree of determination, the Duxford-based team started again from scratch with another abandoned airframe and in May 1993 'Spirit of Britain First' triumphantly took to the skies. For the first time in a single volume, Graham Warner graphically describes how - despite enormous difficulties - these long-dead airframes were brought back to life- interweaving technical details and photographic records with the personal stories of the men behind this remarkable engineering project. To Fly a Blenheim combines a personal insight into the early days of the preservation movement at Duxford and brings the Blenheim's story into the 21st century by providing a behind the scenes glimpse of how the aircraft currently operates together with the plans for its future. Together with the highly successful The Bristol Blenheim - A Complete History, see page 4, Graham continues to maintain the memory of this venerable bomber, which flew in all roles and in all theatres of war in the early years of the Second World War.

About Graham Warner

Graham Warner flew jet fighters in the 1950s and in the 1960s was a successful racing driver, at one time a team-mate of World Champion Jim Clark. The two Blenheim restorations led to his creating the British Aerial Museum of Flying Military Aircraft with the Imperial War Museum at Duxford. His books The Forgotten Bomber and Spirit of Britain First are the remarkable accounts of the painstaking restorations of the world's only airworthy Blenheim.
