About MSG

The author, Ron Padgett, affectionately known as the Ole Sarge, was born in Lyons, Georgia, and grew up in DeLand, Florida. This book chronicles the amazing story of a freckle-faced little boy who grew up dirt-poor in the Deep South- he started out in life dirt-poor but rich in family values, rising out of humble beginnings, living just above the poverty level, motivated by God-fearing and hard-working parents that had a never-quit attitude, continued year after year to make ends meet, living paycheck to paycheck, experiencing at times difficult circumstances in a small-town environment. He became a US Army draftee in 1970, refusing to go to Canada or Mexico to avoid the draft, transformed from a civilian by the military to a hard-rock soldier overnight. Despite all the financial hardships, he continued to thrive with a positive attitude and never gave up on his dreams. Even though retired now, he has spent the last forty-plus years in the logistics business, working for Deparment of Defense, twenty-one of those years as a GI, and the remaining years as an army civilian. He served his country well in Alabama, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Texas, and overseas locations in Germany and South Korea. He is a widower, having lost beloved wife to cancer in 2008 and Dad in 1970, and he lost his precious mom to a series of strokes in 2010. The author currently lives in DeLand and volunteers with the American Cancer Society, National Stroke Association, and Wounded Warrior Project. He holds a MA degree in military studies and plans to pursue an additional MA degree in social services, counseling military veterans and disadvantaged youths. His passion is to become a motivational speaker in the community with a theme of if I can make it, you can make it. The American spirit continues to thrive in his heart and deep within his soul."
