Books Info:

Criminal Procedure in Northern Ireland free pdf The well-thumbed book on Criminal Procedure in Northern Ireland (SLS 1989) and Supplement 1990 in which Judge Hart (as he then was) was consultant editor has now been out of print for many years. This new edition incorporates the numerous changes in criminal procedure such as disclosure, hearsay, bad character evidence, the European Convention on Human Rights, prosecution appeals, non-jury trials and a completely new regime for sentencing. There is comprehensive coverage of the statute law, rules, case law from Northern Ireland, England and elsewhere on the criminal process from detection, arrest, trial, sentence to final appeal, whether in trial on indictment in the Crown Court or summarily in the magistrates' and youth courts. At the end of the lengthy text there are Appendices setting out a basic table of steps in criminal cases and a summary of the main criminal offences and their maximum penalties. It is right up to date to July 2010 and covers the changes caused by the devolution of policing and justice powers to the Northern Ireland Assembly. Solicitors, barristers, court staff, police and all with a stake in the criminal process will quickly find this new work to be indispensable in their day-to-day work in and out of the courts. It will also be a perfect introduction and reference text for law students. Reviews of the first edition [("NILQ" 42(3),284] concluded that, Certainly no criminal lawyer worth his (or her) salt in Northern Ireland can afford to practise without this book 'and John Larkin (now Attorney General for NI) stated that, every practitioner in the criminal courts in Northern Ireland will come increasingly to depend on this valuable guide' - ["Dublin University Law Journal" 1989 11,235].
