About Agnieszka Kuczkiewicz-Fras

Agnieszka Kuczkiewicz-Fras is working as an Assistant Professor at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. Her main fields of research are Hindi-Urdu linguistics (synchronic and diachronic, language contact, sociolinguistics), Islamicate traditions and cultures of South Asia, and intercultural communication. She also translates from Hindi and Urdu into Polish. At present she is preparing a comprehensive study of Indo-Muslim courtesans (tavaif) and the socio-cultural role they played in the Islamicate society of North India. She has authored and edited several books and numerous articles, prominent among them are Perso-Arabic Hybrids in Hindi: The Socio-linguistic and Structural Analysis (2003) and Perso-Arabic Loanwords in Hindustani, Part I: Dictionary (2008).
