JULIAN FELLOWES won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in his movie screenwriting debut for Robert Altman's "Gosford Park." His new version of "Vanity Fair" with Reese Witherspoon is scheduled for release in 2004, and he is writing the book for a stage production of "Mary Poppins," to be produced by Disney and Cameron Mackintosh. He and his wife, Emma, a lady-in-waiting to HRH Princess Michael of Kent, divide their time between London and their country house in Dorset. This is his first novel.
