About Maggie Watson

Maggie Watson joined the Royal Marsden Hospital andInstitute of Cancer Research, the world s largest cancertreatment and research centre, in 1986, as Cancer Research UKResearch Fellow. She worked on studies linked to psychologicaltherapies, psychological response and survival, screening andquality of life in cancer patients. In 1988 she qualified as aClinical Psychologist and in 1991 was appointed Consultant ClinicalPsychologist at the Royal Marsden Hospital. She was appointed Headof Service in 2003 and became an Honorary Professor in the ResearchDepartment of Clinical, Health and Educational PsychologyUniversity College London in 2008. She has worked consistentlysince 1979 with cancer patients and has published widely in thisarea. In 1983 she co-founded the British Psychosocial OncologySociety. She has been Co-Editor, alongside Professor JimmieHolland, of Psycho-oncology since it was established in1992. She has been author/editor of five books including Counselling People with Cancer (Burton M
