International Terrorism free pdf The spread of terrorism around the world is causing ever-increasing concern. The taking of hostages, suicide bombing, the hijacking and destruction of aircraft: all these, despite being in defiance of international law-and certainly of strict moral tenets-have occurred in growing numbers during the past fifty years. The destruction of the World Trade Center in New York, and the simultaneous attack on the Pentagon, on September 11, 2001, have focused attention on the threat posed to civilian populations throughout the world. The word 'terrorist' is just over two centuries old, referring to the activities of the authorities of the French Revolution against 'enemies of the people.' It was subsequently applied to those who attempted to overthrow oppressive governments by assassinations of rulers and members of the executive, in Russia and Serbia, for example, and later in the case of the Irgun and Stern Gang in Palestine during the 1940s. It was not until the establishment of the state of Israel, however, that terrorism assumed an international dimension, with the establishment of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO). No longer was it only the ruling authority that was targeted: innocent nationals, many of whom had no connection with the conflict, were equally at risk. The 1960s saw the rise of the 'urban guerrillas,' equally destructive, whose motive was often no more than social frustration. The book concludes by discussing Osama bin Laden, his army of Arab terrorists, and the malign influence of several anti-Western states. Read "International Terrorism", and find out about: the reign of terror in revolutionary France and anarchism in tsarist Russia Islamic terror groups - Hamas, Hizbollah, the PLO- urban guerrillas- white supremacists- terror networks in the world today- and, the international fight against terrorism.
