About Francesca Bargiela-Chiappini

FRANCESCA BARGIELA-CHIAPPINI is Honorary Associate Professor in the Centre of Applied Linguistics, University of Warwick, UK. She has a long-standing research interest in intercultural communication and intercultural pragmatics. Recent publications include an edited volume on Face, Communication and Social Interaction (2009) and a special journal issue on Face in Interaction (2010), both with Michael Haugh. DANIEL Z. KADAR is Research Fellow in the Research Institute for Linguistics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and Associate Professor in Asia University, Taiwan. His main fields of interest include linguistic politeness, sociopragmatics, and the sociocultural development of politeness in the East Asian region. His recent publications include volumes such as Politeness in East Asia (with Sara Mills) and Historical and Contemporary Chinese Politeness (with Yuling Pan) as well as papers in international journals.
