About Robert Cox

Robert Cox is Professor Emeritus in Communication Studies, and the Curriculum for Environment and Ecology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His principal research focuses on environmental communication, climate change communication, and rhetorical studies of social movements. A leading US scholar in environmental communication, Cox is co-editor of TheRoutledge Handbook of Environment and Communication (2015), and co-author of Environmental Communication and the Public Sphere (2015). He has served three times as President of the non-profit organization Sierra Club, the largest grassroots US environmental group, and is also on the Board of Directors of Earth Echo International, whose mission is educate youth about the importance of preserving our water planet's health for future generations. Cox continues to advise environmental non-profit groups in the design of their communication programs.
