George Campbell Odgen free pdf Excerpt from George Campbell Odgen George Campbell Ogden, the author of the poems in this compilation, was the son of Samuel Ogden and Mary Barr (Campbell) Ogden. He was born at Mt. Auburn, Cincinnati, Ohio, March 10, 1841. Through his mother he traced his ancestry in an unbroken line to Robert Bruce, King of Scotland (1306-1329), of whose history it would be a work of supererogation to speak in this connection. His maternal great-grandfather, Francis Campbell, married Elizabeth Parker, daughter of John Parker and his wife, Margaret McClure. The McClures and Parkers as well as the Campbells, one of whom was the mother of the subject of this sketch, were of royal descent.* One of his maternal aunts was Mrs. Maria McCune Barr Bigelow, of Cincinnati, Ohio, so well and favorably known in that city and vicinity.
