He co-founded Poetrycorp, which included Apirana Taylor, in Wellington in 1988. Poetrycorp toured widely and gained a 'cult' following. Seclusion Data is Staines' third poetry volume, following Warning (with Mike Eager), 1990- and The Slow Road to Gore, 2003. Staines made a short film, The Voice of Foxton (2002), which screened at film festivals in NZ and Canada.
