About Maarten Simons

Maarten Simons is Professor at the Centre for Philosophy ofEducation, Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. His researchinterests include educational policy, political and socialphilosophy and educational theory, with a specific focus on newmodes of governance, globalisation/Europeanization and the publicrole of (higher) education and teachers. His recentpublications include The Learning Society from the Perspectiveof Governmentality (ed., Blackwell, 2007) and Re-readingEducation Policies: Studying the Policy Agenda of the 21stCentury (ed., 2009).

Jan Masschelein is Professor for Philosophy of Educationat the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. His primary areas ofscholarship are educational theory, social and politicalphilosophy, and critical theory. His research currently focuses onthe 'public' role of education (both secondary and highereducation) in the age of networks and on 'mapping' and 'walking' ascritical research practices. His recent publications include TheLearning Society from the Perspective of Governmentality (ed.,Blackwell, 2007).
